Think about the color. Colors convey different feelings. Some colors, like red or bright blue, are refreshing and lively. And if you are looking for a soothing or relaxing feeling, do not select one of those colors and choose a pale color or earth tones.

Texture and pattern can add visual attention to the room but it is advisable not to overdo it. It can be tiring for the eyes if there are too many opposing patterns and textures.

Accessories. Choose impact rather than volume. A simple, impressive piece can often have more effect on the overall look of a room than a collection of small objects.

Artwork. Just like with accessories, you rather want to have maximum impact with least mess. It is better to invest in one suitable piece of art than a numerous mediocre pieces scattered on the walls.
