Bathroom Renovation Tips
Here are some basic tips in renovating your bathroom:
- Break it. Consider built-in such as recessed soap dishes, medicine cabinets, etc. for an older look
- Floor covering. Wood floors are not the best type of material for bathrooms but a properly sealed and stained wood floor are durable enough for normal bathroom use.
- Sizing with color. Make sure that your color palette stays in the white to cream spectrum to make a small bathroom look bigger.
- Lighting. We usually inspect our hair and faces in the mirror but lighting is usually very vague and concentrated only in one place such as ceiling fixture. You need to consider adding lighting around the mirror in the form of sconces. And also consider adding a dimmer switch to add mood to your bathroom which is perfect for late night relaxing baths.
- Fixtures and color. Use white or cream colored fixtures that tend to look very dated after only a few years.
- Additional pieces. Many home decorators suggest having at least one freestanding piece as a design element. This can also serve a practical use where you can store towels, soaps, or other small items.
- Hanging area. Hooks is the easiest way to add space in the bathroom. You can use it from clothes to bathrobes to towels.
- Toilet position. Never have a toilet located so that it is opposite the door. I have often heard that experts recommend that a toilet be located ninety degrees, or at least a few steps from the door.
- Mirrors. You can add mirrors as a design elements which expand the room visually and add a light in the room.
- Wall protection and beautification. To create antique look and to protect the lower section of the walls from inevitable splashes of water.
